Snakes and Sauces

Today I found out some good news from Jeff. Since we live in Texas and we now have our wonderful home in the woods, we now deal with the very real possibility of copperhead snakes. Let’s just say that that is not a wonderful proposition in my book. The first night we were moving in, our new neighbors offered to help (that was so great too!), but they told us immediately about the snakes. I stood there and thought, “Oh, no, what I have I done? Well, the house has trees and a pool and we have already signed the papers, so I guess I will have to deal with this, like a grown up.” I am not a snake person, I grew up in suburbia, where snakes were in zoos, where they belong. Not in my back, or front yard.

Well, it happened. Jeff was outside trimming one day, and guess what he saw. Yep, a copperhead snake. Of course, I had to see it too. Gulp. Still didn’t think it a great idea. Well, the news today is, that we have ordered some solar snake repellents. They make the snakes leave your yard. We know they work, because some neighbors down the street have them and they have proven it. So, pretty soon, our little neck of the woods should be snake free. I think I will probably still watch for them though.

Another exciting thing happened about a week ago. I was walking up and down the aisle at the local Wally’s World and, as always, I glanced at the ice cream topping section. You see, I grew up in New York State. We had/have restaurants called Friendly’s there. You can order a Peanut Butter, Hot Fudge Sundae there. Well, eventually, Hershey’s bought all the Reese’s peanut butter items, including, the sauce recipe. So, since there isn’t a Friendly’s here, I keep looking in the stores. The GOOD NEWS is that I found some Reese’s Peanut Butter ice cream sauce in the store, and of course I purchased it. It is tasty, although it is a different texture than I remember it. But, it is good and I will purchase it again.

Our Home in the Woods

I have a new camera and I decided to take some pictures of the views from our home. Living in the northern part of Texas, you wouldn't think that we would have tall trees or a lake. Most folks think that Texas is all desert, but it is actually very diverse. Spring has more than sprung here and in the photo, on the bottom right, you are seeing the view from the back of our home. If you look closely in the middle of the picture, you will catch sight of the small lake that is behind our home.

In the photo in the center, you are seeing the view from our front door. We have a great driveway and yes, we have to take the trash all the way out to the street. :) Only once a week though, so it isn't too bad.

On the top we have the picture of the pool. J, my husband, has been working very hard keeping leaves etc out of the pool. I have the job of balancing the chemicals, and so far, so good. However, one day I was out there helping, by skimming leaves off the top, when my cell phone rang and yep, you guessed it. My cell phone fell into the pool. They don't float either. So, here I am dressed, the water is all of 60 degrees, and I jump into the pool and have to dive to the bottom to get the thing. I did rescue the phone, but it was sputtering at me and when I found my glasses and looked at the screen, I read "Good-bye." Ha, it was telling me good-bye. Made me feel really great, I had drowned my phone. Turns out, that it isn't water so much that the phone didn't like, but the chlorine in the water.

OK, so I reread my earlier post and realized that I forgot to put in the picture of the back of Emilie's sweater. So, here it is. You can now see the lace insert on the back.

A new Blog

Today is February 15, 2007. I decided after much thought to gather up the courage and try something new. You ask, what's new? Oh, well, I have never blogged before and decided it was about time I enter the blog world. I have family and friends that live all over the US and they don't often get to see what I am up to. On this blog I hope to keep my projects updated for you to see and also hope to write news about us.

I have been doing a lot of knitting lately. I have designed two baby sweaters in the last year. One for my brother's granddaughter and another for our daughter's brother-in-law's baby. The blue and red sweater is a bomber's jacket, which is why the hat has earflaps. I was thinking about the WWII bombers' jackets and hats when I designed it. It could be made for a girl or a boy. This one was made for a boy.

The pink and white sweater was made for Emilie and I call it Emilie's Sweater. I added just a touch of lace to make it feminine for a little girl. Notice the lace on the back of the sweater. This is so when she is carried you can see some design.
